Hope this step-by-step guide will make your life easier so you can finally get some fun out of your Oktomat. Otherwise, I have failed in my mission to spread the Lomo Love.

If you’re still having problems after going through this guide, you know how to get in touch with me. Happy to meet up for a live demonstration if need be!

Holga with Hotshoe

  • first up, this takes 120 film / medium format film… this means it’s pricier (usually retail at $12 - $15)
  • from the 120 film, you can only get 12 shots if you want a 6x6 photo or 16 shots if you want a 6x4 photo
  • 120 film is also dearer to process and you can’t take it to K-mart, Big W or chemists unlike the 35mm film
  • I know I’m making this sound like a drop-kick of a camera but I’m getting to the good part…
  • You can control how long the shutter is open so you can have long exposures (also compatible with cable release)
  • You can do multiple exposure so you can have as many images as you want on the same frame (one image on top of another)… this is a favourite of mine
  • You can attach additional lenses (e.g. fisheye, tunnel vision)
  • Because it has a hot-shoe, you can attach any flash you want (colour flash or stronger flash for night photography)
  • You can also get a 35mm film adapter - this will eliminate the “extra cost of 120 film” issue mentioned above
